General Practice

HDANZ has been appointed by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) to provide general practice accreditation services as part of the College's "CORNERSTONE" programme. Our primary role is to endorse the CORNERSTONE General Practice Accreditation through the analysis of reports and recommending general practices for final accreditation. This ensures oversight to the Cornerstone programme through an independent verification process. We also support assessor training and contribute to the development of the programme.

The CORNERSTONE programme has recognised standards "Aiming for Excellence" and these are assessed to measure the progress of quality in general practices. The assessment is used to provide a useful basis for practices seeking to measure the quality of the practice as well as identifying opportunities for improvement and development.

"Aiming for Excellence" is the RNZCGP Standard for General Practice Care. It promotes a CQI framework that incorporates three dimensions of quality; patients, professionals and practice.

There are 3 sections that contain measurements to provide guidance for practice teams to identify the right environment for patients:

  • Experience and Equity Patient
  • Practice Environment and Safety
  • Clinical Effectiveness Processes

Patient quality assists practices and GPs to identify and act on outcomes of care.

Professional quality supports continual professional development to improve care.

Practice management quality identifies structures and processes to ensure general practices can deliver the best possible outcomes.
